Mary Jo Ann Wright Gilreath

Mary Jo Ann Wright Gilreath, age 71, passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at 2 p.m from Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. R.D. Cline and Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial followed in Lebanon Cemetery.
Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Pearl Harrelson

Annie Pearl Harrelson, age 94, passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Waverly Care Home in West Point.
Mrs. Harrelson was born Oct. 24, 1916, in Chickasaw County to the late Luther Thompson and Sallie Spring Thompson. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Houston. She was a retail merchant owner for 25 years of Houston Fabric Center in Houston.
Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at 2 p.m. from Memorial Funeral Home, with Bro. Dub Harrelson officiating. Burial followed in Houston Cemetery in Houston.

Raiders split back-to-back home games

After falling to Lamar to start the season on Tuesday, the Oak Hill Academy Raiders (1-2) were able to play a pair of games at home on Thursday and Friday. The Raiders got their first win on Thursday, but they ended up splitting the two games after a loss to Immanuel on Friday.
They defeated Kirk Academy 49-44 on Thursday, and they lost to the Rams 46-35 on Friday night.
In the win on Thursday, John Wesley Williamson led the team with 16 points scored. Zach Bryan put up 15 points on the night to set the pace for the win.

Lady Raiders rebound to beat Immanuel

One night after the Oak Hill Lady Raiders (3-3) lost 38-32 at Kirk Academy, they vented their frustration on the Lady Rams of Immanuel, defeating the visitors 63-22.
“We finally had a good shooting night,” said Oak Hill head coach Stan Hughey.
The Lady Raiders managed to take a tremendous 48-16 lead by the half, and they were leading 63-18 by the end of the third quarter.
“We got it at the pace we wanted it at,” said Hughey. “They tried to zone us, and we shot the ball really well.”

Hebron boys fall to Carroll 70-50 at home

Fresh off a season and home opener win over Starkville Academy, the Hebron Christian Eagles were not able to keep the momentum going, falling on Thursday night 70-50 in a home match against Carroll.
The Rebels opened the game up with an offensive surge in the first quarter, scoring 21 points, while holding the Eagles to just 12 in the first period.
The Eagles were able to respond with 15 points in the second, drawing to within two at the half.

Lady Wave outlasted by Tupelo girls 64-47

The West Point Lady Green Wave basketball team did not have a great first week in the regular season.
Looking to rebound from a Tuesday loss to Houston, the Lady Wave hit the road to take on Tupelo.
It was the Tupelo Lady Wave who triumphed with a 64-47 win over West Point.
“We played a good first half,” said West Point head coach Jemmye Ann Helms. “In the second half, they pressed us a little bit, and we didn’t react too well to the press.”
Helms said her team got out-rebounded in the second half, helping Tupelo pull away even farther.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Brasfield of West Point, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Amber Lauren Brasfield, to Jonathan Michael Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Carnathan of Okolona and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Black of Mantachie.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond K. Strobel and the late Mr. L.C. Brasfield and the late Mrs. Annette O’Hara Brasfield , Mrs. Dorothy Tate and the late Mr. Leonard Tate all of West Point.
