It’s time for soccer again. The West Point Parks and Recreation Department announced this week that youth soccer will begin on Monday night at 6 p.m.
The first games of the season will be played at the sportsplex, and the sport will be played on Mondays and Thursdays of each week.
According to parks assistant director Jarod McDaniel, soccer roster numbers are up in 2010.
“Since last year the numbers have gone up,” McDaniel said on Wednesday, as he worked on completing the 2010 schedules. “Numbers have gone up each years since I’ve been here.”
Marvin D. "Shorty" Brock
Marvin D. "Shorty" Brock, age 88, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at his home in the Montpelier Community. Marvin D. "Shorty" Brock was born June 18, 1922, in the Sparta Community of Chickasaw County to the late Mildred Davis Brock and Millard Brock. He was a farmer and had worked with the Clay County School System. Mr. Brock was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church and a Veteran of the United States Navy during WW II.

Fluid Carr Sr.
Fluid Carr Sr., age 77, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Funeral services are Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at noon from U.F.C.W. No. 1991 Bryan Union Hall, with the Rev. Elbert Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery.
Visitation is today, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Carter's Mortuary Services Chapel.
Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of arrangements.
