Tuesday is the special election runoff for Mississippi's First Congressional District seat. Trent Kelly (R) and Walter Zinn Jr. (D) are the two finalists for the position.

This picture was taken for the Daily Times Leader in the 50's one year just after school was out for the summer. The photo was provided by Judy M. Staggers of West Point, who is the little girl being cautioned about crossing the street by the Chief of Police "Mr" Roy Bruce. The young boy in the picture is unknown. Bruce was also the one time editor of the DTL and the Bruce name is still well known in West Point.

MEMPHIS, Tn-The city of Memphis is saying farewell to blue legend B.B. King with a tribute and processional down Beale Street on Wednesday. King's body will be taken to Indianola, Ms. for this funeral on Saturday.

West Point Weekend: What to do in town this weekend

This weekend at the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts, All Things Great and Small, an exhibit of paintings by Starkville artist Betty McDonald Wilson opens with a reception 2:00-3:30p.m.

Little Miss Clay County Pageant – The Clay County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is hosting the “Little Miss Clay County Pageant” at 6 p.m. at Center Stage in Central School. The pageant is open to girls ages 5 – 8, in casual, church and formal wear. Tickets are $5.

Also don't forget the West Point Memorial Day celebration, Saturday at city hall starting at noon.

Memorial Day activities will continue this week as the City of West Point will be hosting a Memorial Day celebration on Saturday May 30 at noon at the West Point City Hall upstairs conference room. The event is set to correspond with the historical celebration of Memorial Day.

The West Point Farmers' Market is heating up again this week on Thursday as the Market enters its second week.

With graduation behind us, this week marks the start of summer for several area school kids.

West Point Mayor Robbie Robinson got the festivities started this week as the west Point Farmers' Market got underway. The market will run Thursdays throughout the summer. Check out Friday's Daily Times Leader for more details.

Also, check out Thursday's DTL where we outline the candidates for Mississippi's First Congressional District. Republican Trent Kelly and Democrat Walter Zinn Jr. are the last two men standing and will face each other in a runoff election June 2.

The West Point Arts Council is hosting Sunday at the Center this weekend at the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts. The program involves the Yes MAM Trio and a flashback to music of our yesteryear from the 1940s.

This week the West Point Growth Alliance will be hosting "Business After Hours" at the Old Waverly Golf Club May 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. The event promises to be an opportunity for all of the Golden Triangle businesses to come together to share and network.
Oak Hill Academy will have a chance to do something it hasn't done in 25 years, win a state championship. This would be the school's first state baseball title. Tomorrow night they play at Oak Hill, with the final two games in Clinton, Louisiana.
